Cabernet Franc is a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon and more vibrantly blackcurrent in flavour. It is a crucial component of most Bordeaux red wine blends taking mainly a backstage role to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Fanc is also used entirety in Loire Valley appellations such as Chinon, Bourgueil and Saumur Champigny.
